Maharishi Ayurveda, preached by the great saints of India, does not speak only about physical health. The
concept of
Ayurveda is truly relevant to spiritual health too. This is
easily discernible from the basic principles of ayurveda which talk about
the five fundamental elements called
pancha mahabhutas (akash, vayu, agni,
jal and prithvi), from which all living and non living objects are made. Not
only this, ayurvedic principles also disclose the
tridoshas- vata, pitta and
kapha- the imbalance of whom lead to various diseases and discomforts.
Ayurveda India also gives supreme importance to
Purusha. Purusha in Ayurveda
is the 'Atman' or the higher self, which is nothing but pure consciousness.
It is the sense of self which makes us feel alive. It is this sense that
distinguishes us from mere objects. Ayurved also gives detailed explanation
of various physiological process like '
ahaar pachan' or food digestion.
